Jack Hubert Creed

H e was the son of Arthur and Eleanor Creed, of Carr Terrace, Docking. His father worked with horses on a farm as a team man. Before being called up in 1943, he worked on Mrs Parker's farm milking cows, as well as being a member of Docking Home Guard. He then joined the Territorial Army. Serving with 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry (Private 14580353) in the Liri Valley, southern Italy, about 50 miles south of Rome, he had the misfortune to walk on a landmine which exploded and mortally wounded him; he died the following day, 13th May 1944, aged 19 years. He is buried in Naples War Cemetery (II.F.2), which is near Miano, in the Commune and Province of Naples. Naples itself was the location of two British General Hospitals from late 1943, and some 1000 men who died in one or other of these two hospitals were interred in this cemetery.
