e was the son of Arthur Henry and Hilda May Jordan of Docking. He worked at Hall Farm, Docking, as a milkman before being called up. He was serving with 7th Battalion, the Royal Norfolk Regiment (Private 14374695) near Bayeux and Caen, in Normandy, France, when he died on 8th August 1944, aged 19 years. He is buried in Bayeux War Cemetery (XXII. D1) Bayeux was the first town in France of importance to be liberated from the Germans in June 1944 by the allies, thrusting inland from the D Day beach landings on the Normandy coast from 6th June 1944. On 7th August 1944, 7th Battalion, The Royal Norfolk Regiment had established a bridgehead over the River Orne, south of Grimbosq, but on the next day, 8th August, the Germans counter attacked with infantry and tanks and after bitter and close fighting withdrew in the evening, leaving the Norfolks in position.
