JohnWilliam Webdale

H e was the son of Mabel Webdale, one of several children, and they lived in a cottage on the Stanhoe Road, Docking, near what was Roy's shop. Before being called up, he worked with poultry for Mr Calver. He was serving with 1st Battalion, The Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (Private 14695381) in Holland, when he died on 22nd November 1944, aged 20 years. He is buried in Venray War Cemetery (V.B.2),which is 40 kilometres east of Eindhoven, Holland. The town of Venray was liberated by allied troops in mid October 1944, as they pushed on towards Germany.
